“The idea is to develop a route of the world heritage sites in the Baltic Sea region, to make them more attractive to potential tourists, to highlight their values. People gathered mainly from the sectors of cultural tourism, will try to find some sort of common ideas,” Vilnius Old Town Renewal Agency architect Jūratė Raugalienė told Žinių radijas.

Raugalienė said the countries are to seek the European Union‘s support for the project.

It is expected that with the support of the EU, the new initiative, The Great Baltic sea journey, will be launched in 2017.

Lithuania has three sites on the UNESCO World Heritage list: Vilnius Old Town, the Curonian Spit and Kernavė.
