1 in 3 Lithuanians receive pensions

According to Statistics Lithuania, in 2014 compared with 2013, the total number of pension recipients decreased by 0.4 percent.

By the end of 2014, 682,500 people received old-age related pensions, including work incapacity (disability) pensions and social assistance pensions. As much as 88 percent of them, or 599,600, were beneficiaries of state social insurance old-age pensions.

In late 2014, 9,900 persons were recipients of state social insurance anticipated old-age pensions, which is paid when no more than 5 years remain to pension age. The number of anticipated old-age pension beneficiaries decreased by 1,100 or 9.8 percent in 2014 compared with 2013.

By the end of 2014, 167,700 persons, or 9 percent of working-age population, received work incapacity (disability) pensions. The number has not changed significantly in a year.

Based on preliminary data, in 2014 compared with 2013, annual expenditure on pensions increased by EUR 25.7 million, or 1 percent, and totalled EUR 2.5 billion.
