“He has asked the parliament to assess his credibility as an official. This is not the decision I expected and I think we will do this as stipulated by the Seimas Statute when the confidence is assessed by decision of a fifth of Seimas members, a committee or the Seimas board,” Pranckietis told journalists at the parliament on Tuesday.
Under the Seimas Statute, the proposal to dismiss a head of an institution appointed by the Seimas can be made by the Seimas board, a parliamentary committee or at least a fifth of Seimas members. A decision on sacking on grounds of lack of confidence is made by way of secret ballot with votes of at least half of all 141 parliamentarians.
Pranckietis last week called on Valentukevičius to resign, saying that the chairman harmed the Chief Official Ethics Commission’s reputation when he made a unilateral decision that MP Greta Kildišienė was not under the obligation to declare that she was driving a car leased by her mother from Agrokoncernas.
Earlier on Tuesday, the official ethics watchdog chief said he refused to resign, as he does not feel having violated the laws.
