Temperatures in Klaipėda, Laukuva, Palanga, Šilutė and Telšiai last night fell to their lowest levels in the past several decades, Teresė Kaunienė of the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service told BNS.
However, it was not as cold as in Ukmergė, where the mercury slid to almost -26C, the weather forecaster said.
She predicts that temperatures will rise slightly in the coming days, but it will remain chilly due to northeasterly and easterly winds.
Emergency services in Vilnius reported on Tuesday that a man had apparently frozen to death overnight and a woman had been rushed to hospital with frostbite.
