Western European nations were too late to start implementing integration policies, which led to some immigrant communities becoming isolated, Bourgeois said.

He said migrants in European countries must be familiar with the cultures and languages of their adopted homes and the state must assist them in finding employment.

Belgium is home to around half a million Muslims. Officials estimate that about 500 people have left Belgium to fight in the Middle-East and many of them have joined ISIS.
