“We are currently establishing the circumstances that may be crucial for the case, with requests for legal assistance sent out to foreign countries,” 15min.lt news portal cited the Prosecutor General‘s Office as saying.
Prosecutors refused to disclose any other information about the investigation.
The investigation into the break-in into the Joint Staff website is conducted by the police in line with Part 1 of Article 198 of the Criminal Code, which envisages liability for stealing protected computer information about a legal or physical entity. Liability for the crime includes a fine or up to three years in prison, with the liability also applicable to legal entities.
After breaking into the Joint Staff website in June, hackers published misleading information about the Saber Strike 2015 war games, saying, in broken Lithuanian, that it was a preparation for annexing the neighboring Russian Kaliningrad region.
