Latvia and Lithuania agree to cooperate for statehood centenary events

In a joint statement, the two sides agree to work together in the organization of the anniversaries of both countries, which will continue to unify the strong cultural and historical ties between Latvia and Lithuania.

The two sides were also in agreement that the anniversary celebrations will present new possibilities to attract European and international attention to the region and confirm its belonging to Europe and its values.

The two governments also agreed to continue strengthening the identity of the Baltic people, and cooperate to promote and protect the historical legacy.

The modern republics of Lithuania and Latvia date back to 1918 when the two nations declared independence from the Russian Empire.
