“We regret the US decision, but we believe that a way will be found for the United States to participate in future joint solutions in dealing with the impacts of climate change on economies and people,” Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius told BNS via his spokeswoman.

The Paris climate accord, signed by 196 countries in 2015, commits the signatory nations to lowering greenhouse gas emissions and taking other measures to slow global warming.

Lithuania ratified the agreement in late 2016.

Lithuanian Deputy Environment Minister Martynas said that the US withdrawal from the deal creates an opportunity for other signatory nations to join forces to show the benefits of the agreement.
