
Jankauskas has been appointed head of the European Union‘s Monitoring Mission in Georgia. The EUMM Georgia is an unarmed civilian monitoring mission. Since October 2008, it has been supporting the stabilization and normalization of the situation, centered on full compliance with the six-point agreement signed by Georgia and Russia in August, 2008.
Jankauskas, 45, has worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1991 and has headed the country’s NATO representation since August, 2011. He previously worked at Lithuania’s representations on Sweden, the US and Brussels.
Jankauskas will replace Estonian diplomat Toivo Klaar.
