Lithuania to supply Ukraine’s forces with helmets and bullet-proof vests

The aid was discussed by Interior Minister Dailis Alfonsas Barakauskas and Ukrainian Ambassador to Lithuania Valeriy Zhovtenko.

“The Police Department under the Ministry of Intrernal Affairs will provide the support it can – it will hand over helmets, bullet-proof vests and bullet-proof shields to Ukrainian troops,” the ministry said in a press release.

The ministry’s officials told BNS that the amount of the special gear is currently being coordinated, the final decision is to be made later.

According to the press release, the ambassador presented the minister with a letter from Ukraine‘s Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, which speaks about the criminal investigations initiated by Russian law-enforcement institutions in connection to specific members of the Ukrainian government.

In the letter, Avakov said that Russian officials may turn to Lithuania’s law-enforcement institutions for prosecution of Ukrainian officials and asked to take an adequate and unbiased stance on the cases “in order to avoid ungrounded actions”.

In response to the request, Barakauskas forwarded the issue to the ministry’s International Cooperation Department.
