For security reasons such visits are not pre-announced.

Members of the Lithuanian delegation are scheduled to meet with the leadership of the Defence and Finance Ministries, NATO ISAF and the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA). The meetings will focus on the security situation in Afghanistan, the possibility of the participation of Lithuanian troops in NATO’s new mission Resolute Support beyond 2014, and other issues.

Around 100 Lithuanian troops are now stationed in Afghanistan. The Baltic country led the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Afghanistan’s Ghor Province in 2005-2013. Lithuanian troops’ participation in the NATO ISAF mission is scheduled until the end of 2014. The fate of the mission beyond 2014 will depend on agreements between the US and the Afghanistan government.
