According to the chief advisor, people fleeing Syria and other countries in the Middle East are not fighters of the Islamic State, but victims persecuted by this terrorist organisation.
“Our obligation is to receive 1,105 refugees within two years and we will comply with the deal and the number agreed,” Sarapinas told the radio Žinių Radijas on Tuesday.
According to the presidential advisor, the events in Paris have shown that the international community must coordinate its efforts in fighting international terrorism as it never has before.
On Monday, Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius also expressed a similar opinion and said terrorist attacks in Paris should not be linked to refugees coming to Europe.
