In Lithuania the highest teacher‘s salary is lower than in Romania, twice lower than in Turkey, 10 times lower than in Austria or the Netherlands, and 20 times lower than in Luxembourg,” said Nerijus Mačiulis, Swedbank chief economist wrote on Facebook.
The news of the figures will give Lithuanian teachers another opportunity to rise in protest at statistics show that their wages are extremely low even compared to poorer European countries.
Luxembourg offers the highest pre-tax salary for teachers in Europe, followed by the Netherlands in second and Austria in third.
