NATO air policing jets scrambled twice last week

The identified planes were Russian military transport aircraft AN-22 and AN-72 flying without pre-filed flight plans, but using their on-board transponders and maintaining radio communication with air traffic control centre, and an Il-20 electronic reconnaissance plane of the Russian Federation that flew without pre-filed flight plan, with its on-board transponder switched-off and responded to radio communications.

The identified aircraft were flying in international airspace along the routes between the mainland of the Russian Federation and Kaliningrad.
