“Such behavior is close to a limit beyond which a disaster can happen. It would not necessarily be a direct conflict, but just an encounter that would have dire consequences,” he said.
The prime minister called Russian military aircraft maneuvers over the Baltic Sea “reckless” and “going beyond safe behavior”.
His comment came after reports of risky maneuvers by Russian and NATO aircraft over the Baltic Sea this week.
The Pentagon said on Tuesday that a Russian Su-27 fighter had on Monday conducted an “unsafe” intercept of a US RC-135U reconnaissance plane over the Baltic Sea.
Sweden said on Wednesday that it would summon Russia’s ambassador after Monday’s incident in which a Russian Su-27 fighter flew close to a Swedish reconnaissance plane.
Moscow says that a NATO F-16 fighter jet, which had most probably taken off from the Šiauliai airbase in Lithuania, on Wednesday dangerously approached the plane of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
