“It is important that the US stays the leader of the efforts to ensure global security,” Grybauskaitė said in an interview to CNN television in a recording provided to BNS by the President’s Office.
“We would like to see the US as one of the most important countries of the world, especially in the security architecture,” said the president, emphasizing that the US should not lose its current position.
In her words, the current relations between the West and Russia are the most tense since the end of the Cold War. Grybauskaitė said Lithuania was ready for any possible scenario.
“We are ready for anything. We know how unpredictable and dangerous our neighborhood is but we are used to living in this environment. We are investing in our security, in our defense, in our international relations. We will not repeat the pre-war situation and the events after the World War Two when we weren’t defending ourselves and we allowed Russian troops to go through our territories. This will never happen again,” said the Lithuanian leader.
She also expressed confidence in the United States, regardless of the administration in power.
