The initiative organized by the Pskov Area Youth League will have 15 students coming to Lithuania on July 11-23 to tidy up a cemetery of Soviet soldiers killed during World War II in the Zarasai district, eastern Lithuania.
The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry’s Information and Public Relations Department confirmed to BNS that the ministry had received the request and approved it.
The MFA department noted that Lithuania was interested in good relationship with all neighbours and stronger ties among nations. “We hope that both the Mission Siberia and the mission from Russia will contribute to that,” the Foreign Ministry said.
Since 2015, a Lithuanian NGO has been organizing Mission Siberia, annual trips of young people to sites of Lithuanian deportations to Russia.
