At the federation’s conference in Kaunas on Tuesday, Sabonis was reelected for the post for another four years in the office in a unanimous vote.

“We rank third on the global rating after the United States and Spain. This will be the seventh consecutive time we participate in the Olympic Games – it is a unique achievement for a small country. This is the merit of the basketball community. We have done a lot in the Olympic cycle because we worked as a team. I expect support and understanding for our struggle for a common goal of keeping Lithuania in the elite of world basketball,” he said at the event.
Listed in the NBA Hall of Fame, Sabonis played for the Portland Trail Blazers in 1995-2003.
He was first elected to head the Lithuanian Basketball Federation in 2012.
