The parliamentary group was initiated by Andrius Kubilius of the conservative Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats, the party’s political group said.
The founding document was signed by conservative MPs Žygimantas Pavilionis, Gabrielius Landsbergis, Ingrida Šimonytė, Liberal MP Arūnas Gelūnas, ruling Social Democratic MPs Gediminas Kirkilas, Juozas Bernatonis, Rasa Budbergyte, as well as Rita Tamašiūnienė of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania – Union of Christian Families and Mindaugas Puidokas and Arvydas Nekrošius of the ruling Peasant and Green Union.
According to the founding document, special focus should be placed on economic, social, education, information and community issues of the Vilnius region.
Kubilius noted that Lithuania lacked an inclusive state policy for national minorities and attention to the Vilnius region, noting that the need was further fueled by the unstable geopolitical environment.
