The key exercise objectives are to put to test and improve interoperability of allied units in offensive, defensive, security and stabilisation operations, Lithuania’s Ministry of National Defence said.

On February 25, Wednesday, media representatives could observe combined training of Lithuanian and United States soldiers at the General Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area at Pabradė.

This exercise crowned the combined training and improvement of interoperability of the Lithuanian Land Force‘s military personnel and the 5th rotation of US troops deployed for training in Lithuania since early January.

Exercise Joint Punch also involved EOD specialists from Juozas Vitkus Engineer Battalion, a Mi-8 of the Lithuanian Air Force, and a platoon from the Lithuanian Grand Duke Kęstutis Mechanised Infantry Battalion and a tactical group of Algirdas Mechanised Infantry Battalion in the role of adversary.

The rotating US contingents have been deployed in the Baltic States and Poland since spring 2014 as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve, a reassurance to NATO allies of US commitments to collective defence in the light of the aggressive Russia’s actions in Ukraine.
