“We saw the determination of a large political community. We saw a major internal vote that mobilized the party and attracted huge public attention,” Mindaugas Lingė, the presidential adviser on internal issues, told the Žinių Radijas news radio on Tuesday morning.
In his words, an election based on democratic principles contributes to building mature politics.
“We can call it certain political renewal whose success could be an example for other political parties as well,” Lingė said.
Gabrielius Landsbergis was elected the Homeland Union’s chairman on Saturday after 5,192 party voted for him. Deputy Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas Irena Degutienė received 4,094 votes.
The Homeland Union supported President Grybauskaitė during the last presidential elections.
