Ivanov failed to appear in court on Monday and Wednesday. The Russian citizen has in the past had health problems and has been treated in hospital.
Judge Ainora Kornelija Macevičienė of the Vilnius Regional Court told BNS that the court expected to resume the trial on March 20.
This is one of the biggest trials in Lithuania’s history, involving nearly 500 victims and about 1,000 witnesses.
Over 60 former Soviet officers stand trial on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity. All of them, except for Ivanov and Yuri Mel, are tried in absentia. The majority of the defendants live in Russia and Belarus.
Fourteen civilians were killed and hundreds more were wounded when the Soviet troops stormed the TV Tower and the Radio and Television Committee building in Vilnius in the early hours of January 13, 1991.
