The damages will be claimed from four companies, the Environment Ministry said on Wednesday.

The ecologic disaster on Upės Street in the Lithuanian capital last December occurred in a construction site of an administrative building with underground and above-ground parking areas. The special commission, which was set up by the State Inspectorate for Territorial Planning and Construction, concluded that the sewage system had been damaged by the collapse of a supporting wall.

According to the finding, the collapse was caused by incorrect constructive decisions, and the construction work was carried out in violation of the technological solutions envisaged in the design.

Two sewer mains were broken when a large sinkhole opened up on December 23 on a parking lot under construction near Barclays ‘ office building in Upės Street in central Vilnius. An emergency situation was called due to the accident.
