Seimas to hold discussion on Lithuanian music quota for radios

MP Gabrielius Landsbergis, representing the opposition conservative Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats, and a group of lawmakers have drafted a bill on the introduction of a 35-percent quota of Lithuania-made music for radio stations.

A quarter of the proposed quota would be allocated to new Lithuanian tracks produced over the past three years.

The parliament plans to discuss the proposed changes with interested groups, including representatives of radio stations and artists.

Representatives of the music business said earlier Lithuanian artists would get one million euros in additional revenue from a quota of at least 30 percent of Lithuanian songs for radio stations.

Representatives of radio stations say, however, such amendments are excessive.
