Alcohol-caused mortality in Lithuania on steady decline

The rate of deaths directly related to alcohol use last year fell to 23.4 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, down from 25.2 in 2015 and 25.8 in 2014.

Figures from Statistics Lithuania show that the rate has been declining since 2010, when 31.1 alcohol-related deaths per 100,000 inhabitants were recorded.

The most common causes of such deaths last year were alcoholic liver diseases (46.1 percent), accidental poisoning by alcohol (28.8 percent) and alcoholic cardiomyopathy (12.2 percent).
