Army acquisitions scandal pulls down trust in Armed Forces and Olekas

Public support to the army was at 48.1 percent in early September, down by about 9 percentage points, from 57 percent, in July. Meanwhile, the number of those mistrusting the Armed Forces grew from 13.8 percent to 18.8 percent over the period.

Meanwhile, Olekas is favored by 16.8 percent of those polled and disliked by 50.8 percent, as compared to 29.2 percent and 30.3 percent in July, respectively, showed the survey.

In early September, the most trusted institutions were fire-and-rescue services (90.5 pct) and the police (57,4 pct).

The poll of 1,035 residents of Lithuania was conducted by Vilmorus public opinion and research company for Lietuvos Rytas daily on Sept. 2-10.
