These individuals should also be banned from serving in the police, the VSD believes.
Kęstutis Budrys, deputy director of the VSD, presented the proposal at a meeting of the parliament’s National Security and Defence Committee on Wednesday.
Other proposals from the service include criminalizing disinformation and sabotage.
“In our assessment, individuals whose activities are incompatible with our national security interests – which means persons who support the aggressor’s policy in the region, support the redrawing of the borders, support international law violations, whose activity runs counter to the tenets of our national security, interests, our membership of NATO and so on – should not work as statutory public servants, in those bodies that would be part our Armed Forces. Currently, there is no such restriction under the law,” he said.
According to Budrys, the VSD also maintains that such individuals should not be allowed to keep weapons at home.
The official told reporters after the meeting that there might be “dozens” of such disloyal officers currently in service.
