According to data from the Center of Registers, Markovičienė took post as ELTA’s CEO on Aug. 4, replacing Romas Bubnelis who had been heading the agency from October of 2015. The executive changes at ELTA were registered with the Center of Registers on Aug. 10.
The purchase of the majority stake in ELTA by Markovičienė from Respublikos Leidiniai’s owner Vitas Tomkus was published on July 28. Tomkus then said she would gain access to Elta’s business and photograph archives, adding that the deal would be finalized within a week.
Markovičienė told BNS on Thursday that the deal had not yet been closed.
“The deal is still in progress. I will make an announcement, once it’s finished,” Markovičienė said in a comment to BNS.
No information has been published about the deal, the size of the stake, its price and other terms and conditions.
Markovičienė also heads company GM Media Invest founded in early August. Authorized capital of the Kaunas-registered company is 2,500 euros, and Markovičienė is its sole shareholder.
Among those interested in buying ELTA were Estonia’s media group Eesti Meedi, which operates BNS news agency, 15min.lt news portal and a few classified portals in Lithuania, and Tomas Balžekas, former CEO of 15min.lt and BNS. Tomkus had earlier offered a stake in ELTA to Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis.
Markovičienė, listing herself as economist, wrote articles to Respublika and delfi.lt on various political and economic topics. She recently left her post as deputy to the Labor Party’s former leader, Živilė Pinskuvienė.
Markovičienė, 40, has worked at Ukio Bankas, Swedbank and Danske Bank, as well as adviser to the Labor Party’s MP Gediminas Jakavonis.
