The voter turnout in the same period in the 1st round of voting two weeks ago was somewhat higher – 87,000 voters or 3.49 percent, the Central Electoral Commission said.
As compared with the last election of 2012, the voter turnout is bigger this year. Back in 2012, 50,000 voters or 1.95 percent of the electorate cast ballots in the first two days of early voting.
In the 2nd round this week, Lithuania will elect 68 members of the 141-seat parliament in single-member voting, with two candidates competing in each constituency after securing the highest number of votes in the 1st round. Three MPs won their mandates in the 1st round.
Wednesday and Thursday provided a voting opportunity to voters who cannot come to polling stations on the election day, Sunday. Voting in special post offices opened on Wednesday and will close on Friday evening for people who are in hospitals, social care and welfare institutions, performing their military service and held in prisons to vote by mail in special post offices during their open hours.
On the election day on October 23, voting in polling stations will start at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. local time.
