At the same time, Grybauskaitė stresses that Lithuania is ready to contribute to solving the refugee crisis.
“Some details and methods that are being proposed, especially when there are attempts to insist on demonstration of solidarity, are not acceptable to us. We must come together and try to find common solutions. This is solidarity through understanding and agreement, rather than through compulsion,” she told reporters after a meeting with German President Joachim Gauck.
Grybauskaitė noted that “Lithuania has taken on certain obligations and we understand our responsibility”, adding that “we are ready to both provide humanitarian aid and to finance a wide range of aid funds for refugees and are ready to participate in various border protection operations”.
Lithuania has committed to accepting 1,105 refugees as part of the EU’s relocation scheme.
