“We must distinguish between the periods before and after 1 January. In fact, in all countries that have recently introduced the euro – Finland, Estonia, and Latvia — these periods differed in that before the changeover, dissatisfied people outnumbered those who were satisfied with this, and after the changeover, satisfied people outnumbered those who were dissatisfied. We can expect to see this in Lithuania too,” Vladas Gaidys told the paper.

However, if any mistakes are made during the changeover, politicians who will run in next year’s municipal elections may try to use these mistakes against the incumbents, the sociologist said.
