The German government sticks firmly to the belief that one can avoid using “long-term presence of large military forces” in Eastern Europe, as mentioned in the soon-to-be published response of the Cabinet of Ministers to the request of Alliance ’90/The Greens.
The refusal to introduce NATO forces in Eastern Europe complies with Russia-NATO pact, as mentioned in the response. Instead of increasing military presence in Eastern Europe, Germany supports the development of conditions that would allow the relocation of NATO forces if such a need arises.
The German government emphasizes that it sees not reasons for strategic changes within NATO, as reported by the newspaper.
The government has said that it will remain in favour of maintaining partner relations with Russia. It is noted in the response that it is only possible to achieve long-term security in Europe through cooperation with Moscow. However, due to the current situation in Ukraine, there are no conditions for cooperation at the moment.
