Among the Baltic states, Estonia is ranked the highest, 27th, while Lithuania and Poland share 28th and 29th place. Latvia is ranked at 40th place.
Over the past years, Latvia has been falling down the ranking. Since 2008, when Latvia was ranked 24th, it has been moving to a lower spot every year.
In 2014, Latvia was ranked 34th, Estonia – 23rd, while Lithuania and the Czech Republic shared 24th and 25th place.
Save the Children released its 16th annual Mothers’ Index, which rates 179 countries based on five indicators related to maternal health, education, income levels and the status of women.
