“Lithuania is ready to help next year as well. We are planning to send several military doctors starting in early 2017,” the president said on LRT Radio ahead of her visit to Jordan.

“We will continue providing the necessary assistance to ensure that migrants receive help as close to the region as possible so that they could return (home) after the conflict,” she said.

Jordan borders Syria, which has been plagued by civil war for five years now.

The Lithuanian president will start her two-day working visit to Jordan on Wednesday. She is scheduled to meet with King Abdullah II of Jordan and take part in a conference on human rights.

The Council of Women World Leaders, which Grybauskaitė chairs, is a co-organizer of the conference.
