The service’s requirements for new SUVs include having two batteries to vehicles to ensure sufficient power supply for additional equipment.

Giedrius Misutis, head of the Prevention Unit at the State Border Guard Service, told the paper that this requirement would not limit the number of bidders in the procurement process as the second battery does not have to be necessarily installed by the manufacturer of the car.

Based on a market survey and vehicles available in the market, SUVs that comply with the technical specifications include Jeep Grand Cherokee, Toyota Land Cruiser, SsangYong Rexton and Mitsubishi Pajero, he said.

The service has earmarked around 2.9 million euros for the procurement of vehicles.
