“I might bring some new ideas, some new inspirations, but they have their own imagination,” Gražinytė-Tyla said in an interview with BBC.
She also spoke to the BBC about the inclusion of women in a role that still tends to be male-dominated; “It has definitely changed, but of course it is not enough yet. Many people do have a question ‘can a woman conduct?’ or ‘oh, it feels strange.’”
Gražinytė-Tyla is considered by many to be a rising star in the world of conducting, and her appointment to the CBSO has been greeted with praise.
Though she is a Vilnius native, her education has been decidedly international, taking her to Zurich, Leipzig, Bologna and Graz. Before coming to the CBSO, she also worked with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
