The interior minister said after the Government’s meeting on Monday that having information about passengers in advance would help foil terror attacks. Furthermore, such information could be stored for three years, as it is crucial when carrying out analysis after acts of terror are carried out.
Skvernelis says Lithuania already has technical capacity to create the PNR system for internal EU flights and could apply it starting 2016.
The European Commission has announced that the PNR system would include at least 60 categories of information about every passenger, including personal identification data, flight destinations and IP addresses of computers that are used to buy tickets. The data would be stored for a certain period of time and accessible to security agencies.
