Based on the draft, “the child’s rights are inseparable from the child’s duties. Exercising his rights and freedoms the child must: respect his parents, other members of the family as well as teachers and carry out duties assigned by them if this does not contravene the law or legal acts, a child must not break other people’s rights and freedoms”.
According to the MP, the preamble of the 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child reads that “the child should be brought up in the spirit of peace, dignity, tolerance, freedom, equality and solidarity”.
“Seeking to prepare the child for an individual life in society and to ensure well-being, adaptability to environment, not only the child’s welfare, freedoms and rights must be ensured, but he has to assume duties based on his development,” said Stancikienė.
