After meeting with Lithuania’s ambassadors, Grybauskaitė said in a statement that the country’s diplomatic representations should be more responsive to phone calls and enquiries from Lithuanian nationals abroad.

“Like during the coup in Turkey, when it was difficult to contact our diplomatic representations by phone,” Grybauskaitė explained to ELTA.

Lithuanian ambassadors have gathered in Vilnius for a three-day meeting during which they are meeting the president, members of the government and parliament.

President Grybauskaitė has said that diplomats should “leave their offices” and be closer to people.

“Lithuanian ambassadors must leave their offices and actively engage with foreign politicians, societies, business communities, the media, to present opportunities in our country and help solve issues important to our state,” the president said in a statement on Wednesday.
