Lithuania’s rate of smokers above EU average

The EU statistics agency said that one in four persons over the age of 15 smoked on a daily basis in 2014, as compared with the EU average of 24 percent. The rate in Latvia and Estonia was 29.5 percent and 27.6 percent, respectively.

Lithuania also featured the widest gap between the male and female smoking population – the percentage of daily smokers was 40.3 percent among men and 12.3 percent among women.

Lithuania’s share of daily smokers was 20.4 percent, in addition to 4.6 percent who said they smoked randomly.
