The department said the decision from last week had been extended “due to lack of human resources and in an effort to accelerate processing of applications for multiple-entry national visas and decision-making.”

The migration authorities will still accept applications from foreigners who are, along with the multiple-entry visas, applying for a temporary residence permit.

The visa applications will be accepted in police migration boards or offices in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipeda.

The department is required to process the applications within 15 days, however, amid the extreme workload the Migration Department is currently issuing visas for those who applied in the second half of August.

This year, Lithuania has been receiving about 15 visa applications per day, with the number almost double since 2015. Experts say the rise in application numbers is due to intensified labor immigration.
