“The trends are changing. What was the biggest headache for us in 2014 were illegal migrants crossing the Lithuanian-Belarusian border. We can see now that the situation is changing and the flows are increasingly going northward and (illegal migrants) cross our state border from Latvia, via the internal border,” Renatas Požela said during a discussion on EU border protection.
According to the border chief, the authorities are also what worried that Lithuania may again become a potential transit country for migrant flows from the Russian-Scandinavian and Polish-Ukrainian borders.
Lithuania has taken in three refugee families under the EU’s relocation program as part of its commitment to receive 1,105 refugees over a period of two years.
