On Tuesday, the City Council’s unanimous approval ended a few years of restructuring, which had already gone to courts after a severe reaction from the school community and its supporters in the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania, as well as even complaints to the Polish government.
Lithuania’s Supreme Administrative Court in late February decided to annul the 2015 conclusion by the Vilnius City Council on school restructuring and movement to new premises. However, the school had already moved before the court ruling and invested over 2.5 million euros into adaptation of the facilities to new needs.
Vice-Mayor Valdas Benkunskas in charge of education issues says that the court ruling does not cancel the municipality’s later actions, i.e., the decision taken with the school community to renovate and adapt the new premises for its needs. In his words, it was the move to the new premises that allowed the school to become an engineering gymnasium.
Benkunskas said that a new gym was also in the pipeline.
