Need for support to cohesion remains stable – EC member in Vilnius

She said that negotiations for EU’s financial perspective after 2020 would be hard.

“I see negotiations will be tough because the budget will be lower by default because of Brexit and because of new priorities of migrations, international, external security, but I am convinced European Union more then ever needs cohesion, needs to show that we are dealing directly with need of people,” the commissioner told Vilnius journalists after meeting with Lithuania’s Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis.

In a press release issued after the meeting, Skvernelis pledged that money from EU funds would be directed to regions.

“We will continue seeking more successful and efficient investment of EU funds in priority areas of importance for Lithuania and Europe. We will focus more on steady development of Lithuanian regions,” said the prime minister.
