Just a few days after celebrating his 20th birthday the Anykščiai born athlete would become the second Lithuanian to claim a medal in the tournament’s history.

Titenis would enter the event filled with momentum from the previous year’s Olympic tournament, sharing a Bronze medal with Australian Christian Sprenger in the 200m Breaststroke final.

Dániel Gyurta (Hungary) would claim the Gold in the event by a split second ahead of American Eric Shanteau.

Lithuanian would also be represented by 19-year-old Mindaugas Sadauskas and 24-year-old Paulius Viktoravičius at the 2009 FINA World Aquatics Championships while French-Lithuanian Benjamin Stasiulis participated in the backstroke heats.

Raimundas Mažuolis would be Lithuania’s maiden medallist in the tournament 15 years earlier, ironically also held in Rome, while Ruta Meilutytė would splash into history last year; taking out Lithuania’s first Gold and Silver medals in Barcelona.
