A prime minister-appointed working group is expected to work out the plan by Friday.

“I expect that decisions will be made during the government’s sitting on May 3 and draft laws will be sent to the Seimas,” Skvernelis said on LRT Radio on Tuesday morning.

The prime minister and Education and Science Minister Jurgita Petrauskienė said in January that only up to five universities could be left in the country. They stressed, however, that the number was not yet final.

Lithuania currently has 14 state universities and several tens of the so-called universities of applied sciences.
