KDS Grupė, which is locked in disputes of shareholders, also stated it would opt out of the tender. The company’s top management did not comment on the reasons behind the decision, although some of the shareholders would like to proceed with the process, however, are not certain how they would go ahead without Budimex partnership.
If the Budimex-KDS Grupė consortium breaks up and withdraws from the tender, the only participant will be the Axis Industries company operated by Icor concern.
“Budimex is not interested in participating in the process, as the risks we see are too high. We have no experience in stadium management and would like to concentrate on project construction in this case,” Krzysztof Koziol of Budimex told BNS.
Koziol said he could not specify whether the withdrawal of Budimex was a result of the problems within KDS Grupė and its possible withdrawal or whether KDS Grupe was leaving because of the Budimex refusal to continue its participation.
Last week, KDS Grupė notified the Vilnius municipality, the organizer of the tender, that it would not take part in the tender, Aleksandras Zubriakovas, adviser to the city mayor, told BNS.
KDS Grupė would not comment on the causes behind the departure. The company’s representative Monika Andrejaitytė told BNS all answers would be provided by CEO Petras Sabalys who is currently on holiday and does not answer calls.
Four participants were initially interested in the stadium concession tender, however, Italy’s Pessina Costruzioni failed to apply in time, while Turkey’s Kayi Construction dropped out later as falling short of qualifications.
Preliminary offers from the tender participants are expected until Oct.23.
