The black ten-meter-long, three-meter-wide boat with two outboard motors of 300 horsepower each will be able to reach a speed of 40 knots, or about 75 kilometers per hour and will be equipped with modern navigation equipment.

Aras Commander Viktoras Grabauskas says that the new boat will improve the efficiency of operations at sea, where the unit now uses an old boat purchased back in 2006. The latter will continue to be operated, but it is not suitable for use in adverse conditions such as rough seas.

“It (the new boat) will be more powerful and larger, and suitable for rough seas. We will be able to use it for counter-terrorism operations at sea,” he said.

According to the commander, funding from the EU Internal Security Fund will be used to purchase the new boat, which may cost about 0.5 million euros.
