President Grybauskaitė congratulates President-elect of Turkey Erdoğan

“I am sincerely pleased about the growing political and economic cooperation between Lithuania and Turkey, collaborative efforts to promote security and stability in Europe as well as about the strengthening of Turkey’s relationship with the European Union. I firmly believe that many years of even closer relations are ahead of our both countries,” the president wrote in her message of congratulations.

The Lithuanian head of state wished Erdoğan, who won the presidential election held on Sunday, much strength, continued health and wisdom in performing very important and responsible duties of his position as he works for the well-being of the people of Turkey.

Erdoğan, who currently serves as Turkey’s prime minister, was elected president after receiving 52 percent in a vote on Sunday, becoming the country’s first directly elected president.
