President to decide on non-Lithuanian letters in IDs after language watchdog’s conclusion

“I will have to refer to the interpretation of the Constitutional Court, which said that the issue should be sealed and that the State Commission of the Lithuanian Language would have to give its opinion, and my decision on supporting or rejecting the bill can only be made after I receive the conclusions,” Grybauskaitė told journalists on Friday.

Earlier this week, half of Lithuanian MPs registered a bill on spelling of first and last names in identification documents, which would allow the use of non-Lithuanian Latin letters on the main page of passports.
